Group meets part Deux

So I’ve returned from a foreign group meet in Belgium, wrestlefest has been a success in the US and the Canadians are organising their next ‘Fest for this year!

The UK group meets don’t seem to be attended as much in Manchester and London?

I’m wondering why? We have a pro wrestling tradition, we have a strong combat ethic (or did anyhow)

Age? Cost? Covid? The dichotomy between jobber and heel breaking down?

Who knows!

What I think I know is that group meets are incredibly fun, and if you don’t attend one you are probably missing out, you make new friends, new rivalries and learn new game types.

For those into pro you get to actually practice it!

Anyhow, just a quick thought from me, be great to flex my pro skills a little more than just my submission skills! Anyone thinking of a UK wrestlefest hit me up!

I only attended one group meet about 15 years ago..
It was organised by the late Hard Andy and I *think it was at Iain Scott's converted garage in south London... which was a great space. It was matted out across entire floor and walls . . There were about a dozen of us and it was a terrific experience.
Lots of group gutpunching, side wrestles, boxing... it was such a fun and very horny day!! Met few really lovely guys that day.
I wish I'd attended more!
I was so nervous before .. but the camaraderie of the guys really put me at ease. If you get a chance to go to such an event... do it.

I prefer subs myself, but a bit of pro fun is good too!

Just trying to think of any way to amp up the meets a little!

I think it also has to be said on how much of the UK community want a roll and then a tug after, and maybe the community wants less sport and more kink?

I have arranged a few group meets. They all start well, but people tend to peter out nearer the time. If I have had to shell out the cost of the ring I have to make sure I recoup the cost

I set up a group meet at Pippa’s old place a few years back.
Suffered the same issue with people not turning up when they originally said they would so after paying for her facility I was out of pocket - plus the couple of nights hotel room and cost of petrol it was a rather expensive venture.

I’ve been to a couple of group meets at Walthamstow and they’re always great fun. Good to practice against a range of guys and different styles of wrestling - after a couple of hours it’s a proper workout!
It’s such a big space that 5 or 6 matches could take place simultaneously.
With enough advance advertising and momentum I think a UK WrestleFest could work, and you’re the guy to get it up and running! 😜

How about one in each, not everyone can travel distance

Has to be London for the first one, surely.
Imagine hiring the matroom for the whole of a Saturday, or all weekend. Might attract guys over from Europe, even the States.
Why not speak to the guy who organises the NY one (Scooter?) for some tips?

There is a new(ish) 3rd alternative group meet (every other month) in north Yorkshire.
Large village sports hall venue with plenty of mat space (no ring). changing rooms, showers, kitchen,& parking.
Numbers are growing as word gets around and is posted on events page. (next meet Sat 6th April)

Man, a UK wrestling meetup would attract so many guys, and so many different types of guys I think. There was a time in the 2000s when it seems like all of the wrestling meetups were happening in the UK. We are still jealous of the facilities you guys have over there available for get togethers like this. In my mind, the UK is an ideal place for a meetup of some sort. Maybe call it Wrestlefest UK XXX cause you guys are always so kinky. ;)

Question I suppose is where in the UK would this work? Brighton?

Never tried a group meet, guess I'm put off by pro/wos. Or lack of privacy. I'm still up for trying. Brighton is harder to get to for the rest of the country. Maybe it's a question of venue type too.
