I am reminded of the Law of Unintended Consequences in terms of our fellow member whose concern for potential injury from wrestling has led him to employ the sleeper hold. I applaud his concern. i speak in no way judgmental; his desire is commendable. Moreover, I don't know by experience how long an individual is held with the application of the pressure on these specific neck arteries. So, color me ignorant. What I do know is that blood is being cut off to the brain. Also, because of either a known or an unknown atherosclerotic plaque a blood clot might be present and break loose. These are just two possible sequelae that could be disastrous. So, though I am not suggesting that one should eliminate this hold from ones use of it, one should be aware of things that can happen, perhaps discuss it with an opponent, and maybe refrain from its use if that is the conclusion one or both participants arrive at prior to their match.
Gentleman, allow me to tell you a brief story. John Wooden, the great basketball coach of UCLA during their golden years, the 70's, always started off his season with a lecture. It was also the same lecture every year, word for word practically. He showed them how to put on their socks, emphasizing it with his gestures and slow, emphatic voice. He explained if they (the players) didn't pay attention to this singularly simple but nevertheless critical thing, they might be unable to play because of blisters.
As I read the above comments, I have no doubt about their sincerity and genuineness. But, may I suggest one little thing?
Be careful what you ask for. You just might get it.
Choose you opponents carefully from stats to interests to recommends. Be careful you don't bite off more than you can chew, or you might get chewed up with injuries, etc.
As a pin lover myself, I wish you the very best of luck in your matches. Stay humble. Be magnanimous in victory. And, remember, the best thing you can do is: not make your opponents look too bad. They need to believe they got something worthwhile out of wrestling you. As should you of them.
KO'd unconscious in any manner as the winner rolls my limp body over spread eagle. Then he looks down puts his stomach across mine and hooks my leg while slowly counting to 10. Then after the win, puts his foot on my chest while I lay out cold spread eagle as the jobber loser.
